The Sky is calling - Mazda's new, efficient engines
The Sky-D, the diesel variant of the two new engines will be visiting the US for Mazda’s 2012 model year. It is currently poised to be used in what Mazda is calling a future “next-gen midsize sedan”. Could this mean we’ll be getting a diesel Mazda6? Will it appear in the CX-7 and CX-9 as well? Currently, those questions remain unanswered. Because of the two-stage turbocharger, optimized fuel delivery and a completely redesigned combustion chanmber, the Sky-D will deliver a reported 43 MPG highway efficiency in the next Mazda6 – trumping the current champion, the Ford Fusion Hybrid.
These new vehicle systems will be marketed as “Sky-Drive”, and will be matched with a revised auto transmission, which has also been optimized to deliver a 5% increase in fuel efficiency.
