Didn’t know this was a season? Neither did we, but we have discovered some great things about it! This year, to make the discovery even more timely, The Miami Beach Antique Jewelry and Watch Show will be held at the Miami Beach Convention Center October 15th-17th.
Antiques are defined as an old collectible item which is collected or desirable because of its age, beauty, rarity, condition, or other unique features. Commonly, the term antique is applied to an object that is at least 100 years old.
"Antiquing,” is the act of shopping, identifying, negotiating, or bargaining for antiques. Below we have listed a some basic knowledge on an antique jewelry. As far as antique jewelry goes, there are 6 main periods of which it can be identified with.
Georgian jewelry is rare, and if in good condition, very valuable. The Romantic era brought about a new fascination with nature, adding Eden-like symbols such as the serpent, grapes, flowers, and birds to the 'romantic' motif. The Mid-Victorian period jewelry (and fashion in general) took somber turn after the death of Prince Albert as Queen Victoria, took to wearing mourning jewelry: jet, amethyst and garnet. The late Victorian period saw whimsical motifs such as griffins and dragons, crescent moons and stars, butterflies and salamanders were crafted into jewels. The Art Deco period introduced styles that focused on bold colors and geometric shapes influenced by cubism and modernism.
With a little knowledge, a lot of patience and the willingness to take a chance, you are ready to head off to this years, Miami Beach Antique Jewelry and Watch Show. For more information on buying antiques, visit The Antiques Roadshow site.
